If you are planning on becoming pregnant in the future, you may wonder how breast augmentation will impact issues such as your breast health and your ability to breast feed. While breast implants should not complicate pregnancy or put your health at risk, they can interfere with breastfeeding. During your initial Knoxville breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Kleto, it is important that you discuss your future plans for motherhood as this will play a role in surgical decisions that can minimize complications.
Breastfeeding with Implants
Most women do not experience any difficulties breastfeeding with implants. However, to reduce your risk for complications, Dr. Kleto may recommend:
- Breast implant incisions underneath your breasts (inframammary) – incisions around the nipple (periariolar) can impact sensitivity
- Breast implant placement underneath the muscles in your chest (submuscular) – implants placed above chest muscles (subglandular) can compress milk ducts
Placing implants underneath the chest muscles offers additional benefits as well. These include:
- More natural look and feel
- Less chance of visible aesthetic imperfections
- Less visibility of implants
- Less interference with mammograms
During your initial breast augmentation consultation, Dr. Kleto will be happy to discuss all of your options and help you determine what will best meet your needs.
