Social Media Underscores the Popularity of Plastic Surgery

At least one Instagram follower of the model Candice Swanepoel chose a breast augmentation to look more like the model. | Knoxville plastic surgery Knoxville Plastic Surgeon Dr. Dean Kleto knows that the reasons that his clients choose to pursue breast surgery, body contouring or even a non-surgical cosmetic procedure are as varied as their favorite food or cologne.

But there’s one reason that some people reportedly opt for plastic surgery that reflects a true sign of the times: Instagram.

The New York Times reports that this photo-driven social media platform bares more responsibility than other forms of media for the way people now publicly flaunt their beauty through selfies.

The newspaper quotes a model-turned-nurse, age 27, who says she wanted a breast augmentation after doting over the Instragram account of her favorite, shapely Victoria’s Secret Angel.

“I’d stalk her on Instagram while sitting on the couch with my boyfriend, and I became more fixated on getting my breasts done,” the woman says of her favorite Angel, Candice Swanepoel (pictured here), a model from South Africa who happens to be the same age (27) as the doting fan quoted by The New York Times. The newspaper added that the fan promptly visited a plastic surgeon who “made my breasts the same size as (Swanepoel’s).”
